Testimonial: “I’m not wasting any energy worrying about not doing enough or the woulda-shoulda-coulda’s. I’m getting so much more done and feeling more relaxed and productive.” – Alicia, November 2008

Hello. I’m Paula Holland De Long, life coach and founder of Coach for Living, where the only thing that matters is living your life with freedom of choice, passion, commitment and awareness of the infinite possibilities you have. Welcome to my website.

You've probably had a moment in your lifetime when you realized how fleeting and precious life really is. The birth of a child; the loss of a loved one; surviving a life-threatening disease, accident or violence; or a spiritual experience reminded you not to take being fully present and alive for granted. You started looking around you with new appreciation. Yet, as time has gone by you notice that day-to-day responsibilities and routine have taken over again.

My personal reminder came with my diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.

The realization that my time really could be limited in the foreseeable future jumpstarted my need for joy, passion, happiness, respect, and dignity in my life NOW. I knew in my heart that I couldn't go back to my old life so I had no choice but to try new things and learn to get comfortable with change.

During my journey as a cancer survivor, I’ve learned how to choose to be happy. This doesn’t mean that my life is perfect; it means that I consciously look for things and people that increase my positive energy and downplay the influence of negative things that come up. After my diagnosis and treatment focusing on what’s most important to me became my number one priority. Now I can honestly say that I am doing what I am meant to do, and I am now able to help make the world a better place.

I want you to know that you have the choice to be happy now, instead of waiting for a crisis to shake up your world and remind you what’s important. I know that you can learn to be who you are instead of who others say you should be. Knowing that you have choices and feeling good about them can help you guide your life instead of responding to whatever the world sends your way.

When you approach the world from a position of personal strength you can give the world so much more. Good things and good people are drawn to you. You provide honest support to yourself and others. Most importantly, you can maintain your own personal integrity and bring joy back into your world. Isn’t that what life is all about?

My clients work with me because they want things to be different but they’re not sure it can be done, or don’t know how to get started. They come because they aren’t getting the results they want from their actions.

The fear of the unknown and the forced changes that we go through is one of the hardest things about living with a cancer diagnosis. It changes us and the people we love. As a cancer survivor myself, I understand the joys, fears, gifts and challenges that come with the cancer experience. My personal experience is complemented by my professional experience working with adults and childhood cancer survivors and their loved ones.
